A young motorcyclist has been taken to hospital by air ambulance after falling off his bike on Crimdon beach in Hartlepool.

Hartlepool coastguard and the ambulance service were called to the beach at 4.08pm today after the 25-year-old man fell off his bike close to the waters edge.

The man was treated for injuries y emergency services at the scenebefore being taken to James Cook Hospital by air ambulance at 5.49pm.

A coastguard spokesman confirmed two life boat had been called to assist the man but due to severe weather conditions had to be called off.
