A HEALTH trust’s audiology team has achieved a national award – which has recognised them as one of the most caring in the country.
The top-rated team at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded the Improving Quality in Physiological Service (IQIPS) Programme honour.
It one of only 13 organisations in the country to get the recognition, and it came after a rigorous two-day assessment.
Team lead Richard Scott was delighted with the outcome but was also keen to pass on special thanks to senior audiologist Emma Carr.
He said it was down to Emma, who made sure the service met every step of the accreditation.
Richard added: “I would like to congratulate every member of the team for all of their hard work and dedication which has quite rightly been recognised.
“I would particularly like to thank Emma for her dedication, professionalism and organisation to ensure we met every step of the accreditation”.
He said the assessment particularly highlighted the way the service works with support groups.
The link-up aims to raise awareness of hearing impairment and how to access services. But Richard said it also served to show “the care and empathy staff showed to patients”.
He added: “This award is a badge of quality which assures both the patients and the organisations which buy our services on their behalf that they can be confident in us.”
The department passed in all of the four domains and 26 related standards.
They showed that:
l The service is patient-focused and respectful of the patient and their needs;
l The service gives the highest level of safety for patients, staff and others;
l That resources are provided and used effectively to offer a safe, efficient, comfortable and accessible service,
l The service’s role in rapid and accurate diagnosis and treatment is promoted.
But no-one on the team is resting on their laurels.
Richard added: “Although this is a great achievement, the job is never done. We have a number of mandatory requirements that need to be completed within the next three months, and a number of recommendations to improve the service further before our next review”

“It is all down to the hard work and dedication of the whole team.”
