VISITORS can help staff celebrate the 50th birthday of a Hartlepool library at an event next week.

Owton Manor Library, in Wynyard Road, Hartlepool, is celebrating its landmark birthday on Thursday, October 24, from 3pm.

Staff past and present are coming together to host a coffee afternoon and people are asked to come along and share their memories of the library over the years.

Visitors are also asked to bring along any old photographs they may have of the library from the past five decades.

Diane Marlborough, reference and information manager based at the Central Library, said: “Owton Manor Library will be celebrating its 50th birthday.

“As part of the celebrations we would like to invite ex-staff and library users from the past 50 years to come along and have a cup of coffee and share their memories.”

Meanwhile, as part of the week-long celebrations there will also be a coffee morning and quiz between 10am and 1pm on Monday, October 21 and a read and rhyme session for children from 2pm.

On Tuesday, October 22, there will be a coffee morning and quiz between 10am and 1pm and on Wednesday, October 23, popular author Bill Kitson will be at the library at 2pm to talk about his work.
