Charity chiefs are calling on the people and businesses of Hartlepool to help a popular race to become a record-breaker.

The Miles for Men 5km run in Hartlepool will be held on Sunday, July 19, and registration is open now.

At the outset, we raised £43,000 in that first year and we want to try and beat that.

The route is unchanged from last year and will start and finish from the Sports Domes at Seaton Carew.

The race gets under way at 1pm on the day and entrants will be issued with Miles for Men T-shirts from 10.30am.

It costs just £5 for under fives to join in, £10 for youngsters aged six to 17, and £15 for adults. Over 65s run for free.

Miles for Men spokesman Kevin Hill urged both runners and businesses to back the event.

He said: “At the outset, we raised £43,000 in that first year and we want to try and beat that.”

The charity is also hoping firms will sign up to sponsor the event, by having them name on a giant banner that will be erected on the start line. Rates start at £100 to appear on the banner.

Kevin said: “If we can get between 20 and 40 firms on the banner, it is a lot of money.”

Kevin urged potential backers to contact (01429) 239577.

Runners who want to sign up for the 5k course, should log on to www.milesformen.co.uk.
