MEMBERS of a group that aims to maintain and enhance a town cemetery are appealing for people to come forward and join in an autumn clean-up.
The Friends of Stranton Cemetery group is hosting Beautiful Bulbs and Autumn Clean-Up tomorrow between 10am and noon.
Organisers are encouraging residents to join the Friends of Stranton Cemetery group and the countryside team for an autumn clean-up and a spot of bulb planting.
They hope it will help provide a splash of colour to the cemetery for next spring.
Anyone interested in taking part should meet at Stranton Cemetery Lodge, in Hartlepool’s Tanfield Road, on Wednesday morning.
Susan Connor, the Friends of Stranton Cemetery chairwoman, said: “Join the Friends of Stranton Cemetery and the countryside team for an autumn clean-up and a spot of bulb planting to provide a wonderful splash of colour to the cemetery next spring.
“People are asked to meet at Stranton Cemetery Lodge, in Tanfield Road.”
The group aims to raise awareness of the site, help ensure it remains a peaceful environment and keep crime to an absolute minimum.
Over the past year, the group has organised a series of events including litter picks, bulb planting, a butterfly biodiversity walk, a bat watch and even a headstone history walk.
Meanwhile, the Friends of Stranton Cemetery group is holding its second AGM on Wednesday, November 13, from 6pm to 7pm to be held in Inspirations Cafe, in Stranton Cemetery, off Tanfield Road.
Anyone interested in getting involved in the group should call (01429) 853325.
