Help wanted for clean-up

RESIDENTS can support a project that aims to improve the environment.

The Wild Green Spaces, in Hartlepool, team needs help with a clean-up of the beck that runs through Burn Valley Gardens.

Volunteers are needed on Saturday to collect litter and other rubbish between 10am and 3pm.

Project officer Jo Haskett said: “It would be great if people were to come along for the full day, but we would urge them to get involved even if it is for just half an hour. All help will be appreciated.”

Bin bags and litter pickers will be provided and those taking part in the clean-up are advised to wear sturdy or waterproof footwear and clothes suitable for the day’s weather conditions.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.

People wishing to take part should meet at the entrance to the Burn Valley Family Wood, off Elwick Road, or join the clean-up team at points along the length of the beck during the day.

The project, which aims to involve local people in work to improve the town’s parks and local nature reserves, was launched earlier this year after being awarded a National Lottery grant of more than £350,000.
