PARENTS fighting addiction problems are being offered help by a charity.
Safe Voices in Hartlepool works with families where children and young people are affected by parental alcohol misuse.
The project, which is funded through Comic Relief, tries to address issues that may otherwise lead to care proceedings or people being put in the at-risk category by authorities.
They do so by helping parents understand the needs of their children, strengthening relationships and future planning.
A spokesperson for the group said: “Parental alcohol misuse can lead to child neglect and elevates the risk of hidden harm.
“Parents with substance misuse issues can struggle at times and find their addiction taking priority over their children’s well-being.
“Safe Voices in Hartlepool looks to tackle these problems in a number of ways; the early intervention family support programme helps families to increase resilience, relieves young people of their caring role and works to ensure vulnerable children and young people are kept safe.”
Safe Voices is based in Unit 5 of Crown Buildings, in Avenue Road. It can be contacted on (01429) 860333.
