A HIP-HOP dance boss is growing in confidence in his fundraising bid to get two crews to the USA.

Zac Healey, from Hartlepool, is trying to raise the £15,000 needed to get town crews Ruff Diamond and their junior outfit Lil Diamondz to the world finals at the Red Rock Hotel, in Las Vegas, from Wednesday, July 27, to Monday, August 1.

Zac, who runs the hip-hop academy, Urban Rockz, in Hartlepool, where both crews are based, said companies have now started responding to pleas for help.

He added: “They are offering us support and some have started giving us raffles for prizes.

“The fundraising is looking a little bit more realistic. Hopefully in the next few weeks we will know more but there are a lot of events planned in a two week period to try and get the money together.” Forthcoming events which will raise money towards the total include a sponsored by Ruff Diamond members.

The crew will be dancing at the Throston Primary School strawberry fair from 12.30pm-1pm on Saturday, July 2.

Ruff Diamond will hold a fundraising night at the Staincliffe Hotel on Friday, July 8, with highlights including hip-hop competitions and performances by both Ruff Diamond and Lil Diamondz.

Tickets are £4 and Zac thanked the Staincliffe for providing a room free.

Ruff Diamond will be dancing at the Darlington Music and Arts Festival on Sunday, July 17.

The crew, made up of 13 to 17-year-olds, were runners-up in last year’s UK event and performed well at last year’s world championships.

Lil Diamondz, is made up of dancers aged under 13.
