A WEEK-LONG holiday for two people in southern Spain is up for grabs as part of a mayor’s fundraising appeal to raise money for cancer charities.
Hartlepool’s ceremonial mayor, Labour councillor Stephen Akers-Belcher, is organising the charity draw which will be drawn during his “Benidorm” fundraising night at Seaton Social Club on Friday, November 29.
The first prize, which also includes flights, has been donated by Hartlepool firm Gus Robinson Developments. The second prize is a 4.5 litre bottle of Johnnie Walker whisky and third prize is a round of golf for four people.
Tickets cost just £1 with all the money going to Macmillan Cancer Support, the Pansies Breast Cancer Support Group and the Denise Taylor Cancer Trust.
Coun Akers-Belcher said: “The support during my mayoral year from businesses, organisations and individuals has been quite amazing and already over £20,000 has been raised for my three nominated cancer charities.
“I am really grateful to Gus Robinson Developments for donating the main charity draw prize of a holiday for two in La Zenia, Spain.
“It’s a super prize and I am looking forward to drawing the lucky winner at my Benidorm night later this month.”
Dan Robinson, chairman of Gus Robinson Developments, said: “The company is delighted to help the ceremonial mayor in his efforts to raise money for three very worthy cancer charities.
“All three organisations do a tremendous job in the local community supporting cancer sufferers and their families and I know that every £1 raised will be put to the best possible use helping people in our town.”
Tickets are available from the Civic Centre, in Victoria Road. For more information people are asked to call (01429) 523704.
