East Durham Homes has raised more than £2,000 for a local charity.

The money - £2,230 - will go to the chairman’s charity, which this year was The Lisa Dixon Centre – home of Haswell and District Mencap.

The money was raised by East Durham Homes’ staff who arranged a number of events and activities, including dress down days, tombolas, raffles, cake sales and quizzes.

Staff from the Peterlee-based organisation, were asked to make suggestions for this year’s charity, and local organisation Haswell and District Mencap was chosen by the chairman Paul Morgan.

Haswell and District Mencap is a charity aimed at providing services, activities and support to people with a learning disability, their families or carers and the wider community.

The cheque was presented to Jean Dixon, from The Lisa Dixon Centre, at East Durham Homes annual general meeting
