Young footballers showed their support for a hospice by donating £250.
Greatham FC under-10s set out to raise money for new kit, but their efforts were so successful they had money left over to give to Hartepool and District Hospice.
The team held a race night for parents, including bingo and raffles.
Team coach Liam Robinson said: “A family friend was cared for in the hospice, so I have experience of the excellent work they do.
“We wanted to make a donation to a good cause, so the hospice was an obvious choice.”
Greg Hildreth, from the hospice, said the money was very welcome.
He added: “This donation will be used to fund patient care services, which the hospice provides free of charge.
“Greatham FC should fee very proud of themselves for setting a shining example to young people everywhere.”
