ANGRY pub staff have blasted the “malicious” actions of yobs who caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage to windows at their bar.
Regulars at the 3 Lions Sports Bar, in Park Road, Hartlepool, were enjoying a game of poker when they were disturbed by the sound of glass smashing.
Staff and drinkers rushed down the stairs from the bar to the entrance to find six glass door panels had been smashed and four youths running off.
Some regulars tried to give chase in a car, but failed to catch the culprits.
A passing police car also went after the yobs but officers are still hunting those responsible.
Barmaid Susan Metcalf said: “All four of them had had a go by the sounds of it.
“We never ever get any trouble in here whatsoever, that’s why it’s so unusual, it’s just a friendly bar.
“It’s just ridiculous really.
“They hadn’t even been in the pub.
“If they had been in and got refused to be served or something like that, I could maybe understand it. “But they hadn’t even entered the pub, it’s just malice.”
Six 18in panels were damaged during the incident, which happened around 11pm on Friday, and the damage is estimated to cost around £250 to repair.
A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “There was an incident during which damage was caused to some windows at the pub.
“Crime details have been obtained and inquiries have begun.”
Anyone with information about the incident should call Hartlepool Police on (01642) 302126 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
