MUSIC fans are being urged not to miss out on a rare opportunity to see folk legend Jacqueline McDonald perform in Hartlepool.
The former singer with The Spinners will be the special guest at a charity fundraising show in the Pearl Bar at the Grand Hotel next Friday, November 30.
The event is the latest fundraiser to be organised by Hartlepool Council Chairman Councillor Stephen Akers-Belcher who has already raised £15,000 for seven local youth organisations since he was elected to the civic ceremonial role in May.
Alongside Bridie O’Donnell in the 60s, veteran singer Jacqueline established the first full-time British female folk-song duo in Great Britain – known as ‘Jacqui and Bridie’.
Councillor Akers-Belcher said: “This is a rare opportunity to see a folk legend and it should be a great night,”
Local band Skyran who are well known for performing well-known ballads and songs from Scotland and Ireland as well as cover versions of Fleetwood Mac, Tracy Chapman and Eva Cassidy, will be headlining the show which begins at 7.30pm.
They are available from reception at the Grand Hotel or from Karen Mason or Eileen Larkin at the Civic Centre on (01429) 523702. Alternatively, e-mail MEMSEC@hartlepool.gov.uk
All of the money raised during the Chairman’s Municipal Year will be divided between The Belle Vue Youth Project; Central Correctors; Hartlepool Young Carers; NYPD (Nurturing Young People’s Development); The Phoenix Funsters; The Rifty Youth Project and The Wharton Annexe.
Tickets are £8 and include pie and peas.
