YOUTH centre bosses say insurance money will pay for windows that were smashed in a vandal attack – and not the cashed raised by fundraisers.

Four glass panels were smashed at the Belle Vue Community Sports & Youth Panel, in Hartlepool, on Thursday night.

It came only days after brave residents took part in 40 bungee jumps to raise £1,500 for the centre’s cash-strapped youth club during an action-packed fun day.

Gordon Larkin, the Kendal Road centre’s manager, said: “Insurance money will pay for the damage and we are in the process of going through that, so the money raised will not be used.

“The community has been very positive about what we are doing and we will continue to raise money for our cause.”

Police are still appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

They are asked to contact PC Jim Blackwell on (01642) 302178 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
