PEOPLE are invited to a party as a soldier set to leave for Afghanistan later this month.
It is due to take place on Friday for Ryan Tallentire, 20, who is set to leave for a seven-month-tour of Afghanistan with the Royal Dragoon Guards on Saturday, September 22.
It will take place at JT Finn’s Irish Bar, in Seaside Lane, in Ryan’s home village, Easington Colliery.
The former Easington Community Science College student joined Easington JT Finn’s Irish Bar FC this season and the event is being organised by the club.
Team manager Owen Maguire said: “Everybody is invited to give him a good send-off. He has played a few games for us and this was just his first season but he is quite a well-known, popular lad.
“All the football lads who have ever played for the team are welcome to come and we are going to put a few snacks on for Ryan.
“We wish him lots of luck.”
Owen thanked pub manager Richie Parker and owner John Finn for supporting the event.
He added: “We are hoping to get as many people from Easington to this as possible, in a place like Easington, everybody knows everybody.”
Ryan was completing a 10-day exercise with the Army before the event.
