HANDBAG lovers will be in their element when 500 of them go up for auction this week.

A free-to-attend charity auction has been lined up at Hardwick Hall, in Sedgefield, this Friday, and two well-known Hartlepool business bosses are hoping it will be a massive success.

Janice Auton, who owns the Poppys salon in Victoria Road, is one of the organisers of the event which will raise money for research into multiple sclerosis.

Joining her will be Pam Hargreaves, the founder of the Women What Do networking movement and boss of town firm Xivvi, who will be the auctioneer at the event which starts at 7.30pm.

Janice was the inspiration behind the fundraiser and wants to raise money for MS as numerous members of her family have suffered from it.

She said: “I am holding events to mark 25 years of Poppys being in business and I thought of this. We are going to do other similar events such as raffles for vouchers at the salon, starting in April.”

Pam said: “We have got about 500 handbags and it is everything from clutch bags to designer bags. Some are brand new. We’ve no idea how much we will raise but anyone can come along and enjoy themselves.”
