DEDICATED Mark Bell is proving he hasn’t bitten off more than he can chew in his weight loss challenge - and now he’s got the backing of kind-hearted caterers.

The 38-year-old weighed in at 25 and a half stone when he started his sponsored weight loss last month.

But he has already shed a stone in a fortnight and is well on target to reaching his aim of losing three stone by Christmas.

Mark’s challenge is raising cash for CLIC Sargent, the children’s cancer charity which supported his daughter Becky through her devastating ordeal with the disease before she sadly passed away in January, last year.

And his fundraising total has been boosted significantly thanks to a £500 donation from a new delicatessen shop on Northgate, on the Headland, Legends Catering.

George Robinson, 59, who runs the company with his business partner, Paul Noble, 54, said: “I have known Mark for a lot of years and I was obviously aware of all the devastation he has been through over the last couple of years.

“But I thought it was a fantastic thing he was doing when I saw he was doing a weight loss to raise money for charity so I got in touch with him and told him we wanted to donate £500.”

Mark, who lives with wife, Julie, 42, and their 13-year-old son Mark, was delighted with the donation and revealed he has already raised more than £1,000 for the charity since he started his challenge.

The taxi driver said: “It’s donations like that which make it a lot easier for me, I know I needed to lose the weight for my health but the charity is the main reason I’m doing it.”

Mark has been on a strict diet and training programme, helped by personal trainer Jason Bland, who runs Look Great Feel Great Fitness in the town, who agreed to support Mark throughout his challenge.

And Mark admitted his early weight loss has helped him grow in confidence.

“I was told I would lose some weight straight away but I didn’t think I would lose as much as I have.

“I’m already feeling a lot better in myself.”
