Should insurance money from the theft of civic chains be used to save a library?
INSURANCE money from the theft of civic chains could be used to save a library from closure.
Hartlepool Borough Council received £46,000 from insurers when the chains were stolen in an unsolved raid at the Civic Centre on New Year’s Day in 2008.
The chains were never replaced.
But with the cash left untouched, it has now been recommended that it is used to save West View Community Centre and Library, as well as community centres in Jutland Road and Seaton Carew.
