Will you vote in the May local elections?

COUNCIL bosses have outlined plans for this year’s Local Elections which will see the number of wards reduced and councillors slashed by almost a third.

Hartlepool Borough Council currently has 47 councillors, plus Mayor Stuart Drummond, spread over 17 wards in town.

But in May, an all-out Local Election will be held and the number of wards reduced to 11 and councillors to 33.

The major electoral shake-up was led by the Local Government Boundary Commission, who recommended the number of councillors be slashed by 14 and boundaries re-drawn with three councillors in each.

From May, the new ward names will be Hart, De Bruce, Jesmond, Headland & Harbour, Victoria, Burn Valley, Foggy Furze, Manor House, Fens & Rossmere, Seaton and Rural West.
