A CENTENARIAN was treated to a birthday present that hit all the right notes.
Kate Shuttleworth was serenaded by singer Shirley Mac as she performed during celebrations to mark Kate’s 101st birthday.
Shirley was at the Bannatyne Lodge care home, in Manor Way, Peterlee, where she led Kate and 30 other home residents in a sing-along.
Dawn Minto, the home’s personal activities leader, said: “It was Kate’s birthday on Saturday, but the event featuring Shirley this week was a celebration for Kate.
“Shirley was here three months ago and she was so good, the residents asked for her back.
“She serenaded Kate and we all sang happy birthday to her.
“Kate seemed to enjoy it and the entertainer put a long pink wig on her.”
Dawn said Kate still enjoys reading newspapers and goes along to most of the home’s activity sessions to watch her fellow residents take part.
She added: “She’s a very lovely lady.
“After we have done activities with her, she always says thank you and she will always give you a cuddle.
“She is very grateful for the care staff give to her.”
