A PROUD Hartlepool man is celebrating 50 years doing the same job.
Ken Shepherd, 65, works as an electrical engineer for ABB Consulting, in Billingham, and celebrated reaching the landmark yesterday alongside colleagues.
The dad-of-three, of Park Road, started out as an apprentice for ICI on May 29, 1963, and worked his way up through the ranks before becoming an electrical engineer, working on a range of projects.
Ken, who has worked at sites in Wilton and Billingham, now works for ABB Consulting after they took over 12 years ago.
The grandad-of-five – who has no plans to retire – said: “I love my job.
“It is an achievement to reach 50 years and it is testament to the people I work with.
“The biggest change is the use of technology, everything used to be done on chalk boards but now it is all computers.”
Ken lives with wife Sylvia Shepherd, 66, a retired teacher, who said: “He just loves his job and comes home every night – and I ask him about his day and he always says it was good.”
ABB Consulting is part of ABB Global Consulting which provide services to chemical, oil and gas industries.
