TICKETS to see world-famous opera singer Lesley Garrett perform in Hartlepool this summer have almost sold out already.
The soprano (pictured) will perform with Hartlepool Male Voice Choir at the Borough Hall in June.
Tickets for the choir’s Summer Concert went on general sale earlier this year.
And with more than two months to go, organisers have announced that most of the seats have been snapped up by eager music fans.
Duncan Graham, Hartlepool Male Voice Choir chairman, said: “Only a few tickets are left for this blockbuster summer concert.
“The singers are really looking forward to this third summer concert after performing with Aled Jones in 2009 and with Russell Watson last year.
“Lesley will perform two spots of about 20 minutes and will sing with the choir in each half.”
The male voice choir is also celebrating following a recent recruitment surge that has seen its membership rise to more than 70.
Five new members joined at the choir’s Christmas Concert in December and another nine have attended weekly rehearsals at the Corner Flag in Hartlepool.
Duncan added: “We are recruiting like crazy at the moment and we are delighted. We are bucking the trend nationally for male voice choirs.”
The choir also has a busy year ahead with a series of concerts and appearances at local functions.
Next month they will perform with the Wantage Male Voice Choir from Oxfordshire in a concert at St Joseph’s Church, St. Paul’s Road, Hartlepool.
The choir is supporting the Great North Air Ambulance throughout the year as its chosen charity.
Tickets for the Lesley Garrett concert on Saturday, June 18, are available from Christ Church Art Gallery, Church Square, Hartlepool, priced £30 and £25 for slightly restricted view.
