THE curtain will soon go up on a village drama group’s annual pantomime.

Plenty of fun, laughter and audience participation is in store in Jack and the Beanstalk by Greatham Village Players.

The panto will be performed by an enthusiastic cast of around 30 local actors from Wednesday, January 9, to Saturday, January 12.

Brian Price, of Greatham Village Players, said: “Tickets are going very well.

“We have a number of new faces and hopefully it will be a fun packed performance from the cast.

“People can expect plenty of fun, plenty of involvement and hopefully a very enjoyable night.

“We have got quite a few children involved from local schools this year.”

Youngsters from Fens and Greatham primary schools have joined the show as well as welcoming older performers from High Tunstall and Manor secondary schools.

They will play everything from villagers and guards to dancing in the chorus.

“You name it, they’re doing it,” added Brian.

The show will be performed at Greatham Community Centre, Front Street, at 7pm each night.

The cast and crew, totalling around 50 people, have been rehearsing hard since September.

The Players have performed a fun panto in the village for a number of years.

Productions in recent years have included Mother Goose and Dick Whittington.

The group enjoyed a busy year last year by joining in Greatham’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations and holding a recruitment drive to boost members.

They also staged a series of murder mystery nights locally in Hart, Long Newton and Seaton Carew.

Tickets for the Jack and the Beanstalk are £3.50 for adults and £2.50 for concessions of senior citizens and children.

They are available from Greatham Village Post Office throughout the whole week.
