12.15pm: Former grot spot building to be unveiled

NEW £2.6m luxury apartments in a former grot spot building will be unveiled later this month during a series of open days.

The new-look appartments at Titan House in York Road, Hartlepool, will be open as showrooms from Thursday, April 9, to Sunday, April 12, to give people their first glimpse inside the former social services building which has stood derelict for almost 20 years.

The site was dubbed a grot spot by Hartlepool Mayor Stuart Drummond in his hitlist of buildings that have hampered the good regeneration work going on in the town.

The development, which was launched in September last year by local firm Montague Estates (Titan) Ltd, has been designed with the first time buyer in mind.

Appartment range from 48,000 to 118,000, depending on each individual size, and as well as boasting panoramic views across the town, the luxury apartments include all modern features such as fully fitted kitchen with granite work tops, fully fitted bathroom and carpets throughout.

The 2.6m development is recognised as one of Hartlepool's underused buildings and working in close partnership with Hartlepool New Deal for Communities (NDC) and its housing regeneration company Hartlepool Revival, Titan House was identified as a priority for redevelopment in the NDC Commercial Areas strategy.

As well as providing technical support and advice throughout the development, NDC also helped with parking arrangements for the scheme and as a major land owner in Dalton Street, Hartlepool Revival agreed with residents to build a car park to be leased back to the Titan House management company.

The showrooms will give people the chance to learn more about the 49 studio, one bedroom and two bedroom developments with guided tours of the building as well as information regarding the apartments and their specifications and free mortgage advice.

Malcolm Walker, programme director for NDC, said: "As one of the most prominent buildings in Hartlepool the redevelopment of Titan House can only have a positive impact on the area's overall regeneration, attracting new residents into our community."
