A Diamond night with the stars...

GOT To Dance host Davina McCall with the Ruff Diamond crew and all their supporters.

GOT To Dance host Davina McCall with the Ruff Diamond crew and all their supporters.

JANET Staunch will never forget the night she mingled with the stars – and watched her son outshine all of them.

The proud 47-year-old was in the audience as her son Aaron, 19, and the rest of the Ruff Diamond street crew from Hartlepool reached the live finals of the Sky 1 competition Got To Dance.

She met the show panellists Ashley Banjo, Aston Merrygold and Kimberly Wyatt as well as host Davina McCall.

But all eyes were on her boy as he did the town proud.

Janet said: “I was nervous all day thinking ‘how am I going to be if they get through’. The people at Sky had told us if they did, we could run on the stage at the end. I was first up! Everyone had tears in their eyes.”

But Janet said she didn’t really have any doubts that Ruff Diamond would make it.

“I booked a hotel for the final before the semis,” she told the Hartlepool Mail.

Janet got to meet the stars of the show and said: “Davina told me they deserved to reach the final. She said the boys were genuine, lovely, down-to-earth guys and Ashley told them ‘Great show, you were fantastic.’”

Now all thoughts turn to the final this Sunday in front of 6,000 people at Kensington Olympia with a £250,000 prize at stake.

Janet said: “No-one talked about the final while we were down there, but now that we are all back in Hartlepool, everyone is saying they can win this.

“I can’t even think about the reaction if they did it,” said Janet who is married to Steven Staunch, 51, a supervisor with JDR Cables, and also has an 18-year-old son Bradley who plays for Carlisle United. “We shall be praying and hoping.”
