A MAN has died after being hit by a train at a level crossing.
Emergency services were called after a person was hit by a train at a level crossing at Cowpen Bewley in Billingham.
The North East Ambulance Service was called to attend the incident at the level crossing at around 9.30pm on Tuesday.
Northern Rail warned that services through Hartlepool could affected after a person was hit by a train.
British Trainsport Police said: “At 9.30pm on Tuesday, March 11, a report was received that the driver of the 8.30pm Newcastle to Middlesbrough passenger train had reported striking a person in the area of Cowpen Bewley, Billingham.
“British Transport Police and Cleveland Police officers together with paramedics attended the body of a male found deceased at the scene.
“There were no suspicious circumstances and the coroner has been advised.
“Railway lines were closed until 11.05pm.”
