A musical dedication for Kyle

A WEEKEND of music, thrills and spills was held in memory of a tragic teenager.

A two-day extravaganza called Pitch Invasion was held over the weekend with more than 20 Hartlepool bands taking to a stage at Seaton Carew Cricket Club.

The fun festival was organised by the charity Red Dreams that was set up by the parents of 16-year-old Kyle McManus, who died from a brain haemorrhage in April 2007.

Closing the event, which saw mainly young local talent perform was Shine On, who are billed as the UK's top Pink Floyd tribute band.

Kyle's parents, Dawn and Ian, picked the group as Pink Floyd was the talented teenager's favourite act and they dedicated a song to Kyle at the end of the event. Dawn, of Lennox Walk, Hartlepool, said: "The weekend all went very well and lots of young people got the chance to show what they can do on stage. It couldn't have been better."

Along with the music, visitors also had the chance to enjoy fairground rides, bungee jumps, side stalls, face painting and balloon making.

Red Dreams promotes young, artistic talent in Hartlepool and the surrounding areas. It was set up in memory of Kyle, a pupil at Manor College of Technology, who had a passion for art, drama and music.

Dawn now hopes to make the festival an annual event after holding a smaller show in Ward Jackson Park last year.
