A WACKY new football craze looks set to take Hartlepool by storm – and the idea’s not full of hot air.

Bubble football sees players encased in 4ft inflatable spheres.

As players attempt to play football, the bubbles make for some hilarious scenes as participants bump into each other, falling over and even somersaulting.

The idea was inspired by a scene from ITV2’s The Only Way is Essex, in which regulars including Joey Essex and Mario Falcone were seen taking part in the new craze, which can involve five-a-side teams.

It has been brought to Hartlepool by Andrew Briscoe, who works at The Sports Domes, at Seaton Carew, and his pal Alan Hughes.

Alan, a 29-year-old dad-of-two from the Catcote Road area of town, said: “It’s suitable for everyone. It’s not really about the football, it’s more about the fun, and it’s very funny to watch as well.

“I was tired out after just 20 minutes, so if you can play football for an hour it’s going to be really good for fitness.”

“I was a bit dubious at first, but it’s just fun – I laughed all the way through.”

An open evening is being held at the domes, in Tees Road, tonight from 5pm-8pm and people can give bubble football a try.

Bubble football will also feature in children’s parties at the domes.
