An abundance of wildlife
A RICH variety of wildlife has been spotted on walks around a wildlife reserve near Hartlepool.
Keen wildlife spotters at Saltholme have sighted a long-eared owl, wigeon, lapwing and kestrels.
And officials say they are exactly the sort of sightings more people can hopefully look forward to seeing if they join in with one of the venue’s new series of walks.
Marketing officer Liz Morgan said: “We thought we may have caught a glimpse of a weasel.
“There is the chance of seeing fox and hares on these walks too.”
RSPB Saltholme is running the introductory walks so people can explore more of the reserve than ever before. They are free but visitors must pre-book.
They all start at 12.30pm and can last up to three hours from start to finish, taking in all of the reserve’s hides and the best places to walk.
Suitable clothing and footwear is essential and mobility scooters can also be arranged.
The full list of walk dates are Sunday, January 13; Thursday, February 7; Sunday, February 10; Thursday, March 7; and Sunday, March 10.
RSPB Saltholme can be found on Seaton Carew Road, Port Clarence.
