Arrests follow factory break-in
TWO arrests have been made after a raid which saw thousands of pounds worth of tools and equipment stolen from a car parts firm.
Detectives at Peterlee CID are investigating a burglary at Mecaplast, in Fiennes Road, on Peterlee’s North West Industrial Estate.
Thieves lifted the heavy gates out of their mountings before breaking into a steel container and stealing various items, including a £500 petrol generator, a £450 Stihl saw, a nine-inch grinder with a diamond blade worth £100, a 110-volt chip saw worth £130 and a drill and breaker worth £700.
Two men in their 20s have since been arrested in connection with the burglary, which took place overnight between Thursday, February 14 and Wednesday, February 13, and bailed pending further inquiries.
Police say some of the equipment was recovered.
Officers have re-issued an appeal for witnesses and anyone with information is urged to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
