ASBO: Dean Rowbotham

DEAN Rowbotham was the first Asbo youth to be publicly named and shamed by Hartlepool Borough Council after civic chiefs issued 2,000 leaflets in the Dyke House and Stranton area in November 2006.

The leaflets, emblazoned with his picture, outlined the prohibitions of the three-year order, which ends on November 29 next year, and urged residents to report any breaches to the police.

The 19-year-old had been slapped with the Asbo after issuing threats of violence, being verbally abusive, harassing residents, causing a nuisance while under the influence of alcohol, damaging property and throwing missiles.

At the time, he told the Mail he had been unfairly treated through the issuing of the leaflets, saying: "I'm angry but there is nothing I can do about it.

"I have not left the house for months because of confrontation."

Rowbotham also appeared at Hartlepool Magistrates' Court in November, last year and admitted punching a woman in the cheek while she was stood on her doorstep in October, breaching the Asbo twice by drinking in the street last September and being abusive towards police in July last year.

He was given a two-year community order with supervision and ordered to do 100 hours' unpaid work and to pay the mum 100 compensation. He was also given a community order in December last year, after being found with his brother Gary on an enclosed premises and assaulting a police officer in September last year.

In July this year he was jailed for eight months for two counts of assault by beating, one count of causing harassment, alarm or distress, and breaching three community orders on February 18.
