Asbo yobs framed on wall of shame

THESE are the first three ASBO yobs whose pictures have been posted on a wall of shame in a bid to lock them out of a shopping centre.

Shoppers are being urged to be on the lookout for three prolific offenders who have been given criminal anti-social behaviour orders and are banned from Middleton Grange Shopping Centre in Hartlepool. They face being arrested, and could go to prison if they are caught stepping foot inside the complex under the strict terms of the orders.

A noticeboard featuring posters of the trio has been put up in the centre's Central Square after police were approached by businesses.

Mark Rycraft, manager at Middleton Grange, said the name and shame exercise is part of the centre's zero tolerance stance on bad behaviour.

Mr Rycraft said: "A tenant had heard of this initiative happening in town centres across the country.

"The posters are there to make the general public in the community aware of these particular individuals.

"We have got a good relationship with the police and also the community support officers.

"We hold records of regular offenders to assist the police in getting the Asbos, because we have a zero tolerance policy."

The prolific offenders named and pictured on the board are Pamela Hopper, Sean Atkinson and Richard Gray.

The posters list the conditions each offender has to stick to after Cleveland Police were granted the orders by the courts.

Hopper is banned from Middleton Grange, Morrisons, Asda, TK Maxx, and any Bells Stores under her criminal Asbo which runs until January 25 next year.

Atkinson and Gray are both barred from entering the shopping centre, including the indoor market.

And all three must not behave in a way which causes harassment, alarm, distress to other people or encourage other people to do so.

Mr Rycraft added: "To date we have had no complaints whatsoever, and it is attracting quite a lot of interest."
