BEAMING mum Gemma Bazeley cuddles the bundle of joy who has made 2013 the perfect the year.
The Hartlepool Mail’s Bride of the Year has given birth to a son, four months after marrying her sweetheart in a dream summer wedding.
Gemma, 28, and husband Andrew Bazeley, 26, are now the proud parents of Ashton Robert Bazeley who was born earlier this month.
He entered the world at the University Hospital of North Tees and proud dad Andrew, a refuse collector in Hartlepool, said: “I was there for the whole thing and it was amazing.”
He said Gemma had a labour of just under six hours and said: “Even the midwife was saying she could not believe how well it all went. “
Ashton weighed 9lb 12ozs and helped make a wonderful year complete for our happy couple.
They won the £13,000 Bride of the Year competition, run by the Hartlepool Mail in association with Robert Usher Photography, which included a fantastic wedding ceremony in the Captain’s Cabin on board HMS Trincomalee,
They married in September with Gemma’s six-year-old daughter Madeline as one of the bridesmaids.
Gemma said at the time: “This has been an incredible day and I have loved it.
“I can’t thank the sponsors enough for making my dreams come true.”
Now her dreams just got even better and Andrew said: “Madeline is really excited that she has got a little brother. She is over the moon.”
In fact, it was Madeline’s inspirational messages which the couple used to sway the judges on the Bride of the Year finals night back in March.
She told them to talk about their love for each other.
Andrew asked Gemma to marry him when they were at Lake Garda in Italy for the wedding of Gemma’s brother Graham in May 2012. The romantic occasion was just the spur Andrew needed for him to pop the question himself.
He bought an engagement ring in Italy, got down on one knee and asked the love of his life: “Will you make me the happiest man and marry me?”
It led to their dream wedding in a fantastic setting - and now to a new addition to the family.
