Beauty battle for students

STUDENTS from East Durham will battle it out next week at a prestigious regional hair and beauty event.

Over 40 students studying hair and beauty therapy at East Durham College, in Peterlee, will head to Federation Brewery in Gateshead for the North East heats of the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) competition on Monday, February 11.

The event sees hundreds of students from across the region competing across 14 different hair and beauty categories, with the top three in each category going through to the national finals in Blackpool in March.

The college won the title of Best College in 2011 and is working hard to regain it.

Simon Smith, curriculum leader for hair and beauty at the college, said: “The students are all very excited and looking forward to the event.

“They have been working really hard, taking part in special competition preparation classes to get ready for Gateshead. I wish them the best of luck.”
