POLICE searching for a Peterlee man missing for nearly two months have found a body in woods a short distance from his home.
Robert Sanderson, 57, (pictured) was last seen at his home in Witton Garth in the town on the morning of July 5.
His sister reported he had gone out around 6am to go for a walk and had not returned.
On Friday afternoon, August 30 police and volunteer wardens who were combing an area of Castle Eden Dene came across the body of a man in a secluded wooded area of the dene, approximately three-quarters of a mile from the former Castle Eden Brewery.
Formal identification has not yet been carried out, but it is believed to be Mr Sanderson, and his family have been informed of the discovery.
There are no suspicious circumstances and an inquest is expected to open sometime later this week.
