POLICE have confirmed that a body found on a beach is that of missing teacher Mark Bushnell.
Mr Bushnell was reported missing from his home in Durham City on Sunday, March 9 and his car was seen near Blackhall Rocks picnic area the next day.
Since then officers from Durham Constabulary had been involved in extensive searches of the coast.
But police have now confirmed a body found on the beach at Blackhall by a member of the public on Saturday is that of the dad-of-three, who was deputy headteacher at Durham School and had also worked at Hartlepool Sixth Form College.
Officers say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and the coroner has been informed.
Chief Inspector Andy Huddleston, who led the search for Mr Bushnell, said: “Our thoughts are with Mark’s family at this extremely difficult time.
“Mark’s wife, Joanna would like to thank all involved in the search for Mark for their efforts.”
