AN employment support worker who has helped dozens find work has described the “huge buzz” of seeing a young person secure a job.
Lucy Fox, performance manager at Triage, in Hartlepool, works with young people in the town attempting to bridge the gap between applying for a role and landing a job.
The organisation provides jobseekers with key skills needed in employment as well as helping to develop interview skills.
It works in partnership with employers to give applicants the chance to demonstrate what they can offer and establishes partnerships with companies giving them the opportunity to recruit someone with the skills to do the job.
“It’s not easy for young people who are trying to find work at the minute, especially if they are up against someone with more experience,” said Lucy.
“But we work to motivate and inspire people to regain their confidence.
“To sell yourself is a hard thing, young people often know what they offer to the job but it’s difficult to put that across in an interview.
“But we match people to the roles which suit them and help them to secure sustainable employment.”
Triage, based at Maritime House, on Hartlepool Marina, is also part of the Government’s Work Programme, which sees expert organisations receive payment from the Government but only after they have got an individual into work and kept them there for several months.
Young people are referred to Triage from the Jobcentre and are eligible for the programme after nine months out of work, three months earlier than older jobseekers.
“It’s important to make sure the role is sustainable rather than seeing people fleeting in and out of work,” added Lucy.
“And it is a huge buzz when the young person gets a job, just to see the impact it can have on their lives, that’s why we do this job.”
