A NEWLY-qualified lifeboatman had a busy introduction to life with the RNLI after two weekend call-outs.
Matt Adams qualified as 2nd coxwain for Hartlepool RNLI last week, and took charge of the all-weather lifeboat, Betty Huntbatch, on Saturday afternoon.
The crew’s first call came at 1.04pm to assist with a fishing boat which had suffered power failure 11 miles off the coast of Hartlepool.
The crew towed the vessel back to Hartlepool Marina shortly after 4pm, but just an hour later they took a call from a yacht that was in trouble near the Tees Fairway Buoy.
Again, the vessel was brought back into the Marina.
Matt said: “It was a busy day for my first time as coxwain but thankfully both were routine jobs and all went well.”
