A BUSINESS consultant has told of the vital need for Hartlepool people to shop locally.
Colin Griffiths, a consultant at the Stranton Business Centre, today backed the Mail’s new Shop Local, Eat Local, Play Local campaign.
In a plea to town people, he said: “You need to support the lifeblood of our economy.”
Mr Griffiths added: “The money that we spend in our local shops is money that is re-invested into our economy in Hartlepool.
“That can help business people to look to expansion or to improve their offer.
“As a community in Hartlepool, it is so important that we back the Shop Local campaign.”
Mr Griffiths said he would also be encouraging firms to support the project as well.
Mr Griffiths linked the Shop Local scheme to the Hartlepool Vision project as they both aim to improve the offer within the Hartlepool economy.
He said schemes which will help to improve areas such as the Headland or Seaton Carew could mean extra contracts for the area.
“That could mean local people getting local jobs, and that money will then come back into the town. Small businesses will then act upon that and that should have a positive impact on how Hartlepool operates.”
Numerous dignitaries, business bosses and local entrepeneurs have now pledged their support to the Shop Local, Eat Local, Play Local campaign.
Our new campaign aims to celebrate the success of our local retailers and help ensure they continue to play a prominent role in a vibrant Hartlepool.
To achieve that aim, we are encouraging people to support businesses in Hartlepool by shopping locally and re-acquainting themselves with the offer on their own doorstep.
In the coming weeks, we will report on local businesses that are supporting the campaign and we want to include even more of our local entrepreneurs in Shop Local, Eat Local, Play Local.
