Can you teach cycling?
CYCLISTS are being sought to help teach children in Hartlepool how to ride their bikes safely on the road.
A recruitment drive has been launched by Cycling Solutions, a company that has been awarded a contract by Hartlepool Borough Council to deliver National Standard Bikeability Cycle Training to Year 5 and 6 pupils across the town.
Successful applicants will be fully trained as National Standard Cycling Instructors, and local training courses are to be held from August 18 to 22 and October 27 to 31.
Council officials recently announced that they intend to more than quadruple the amount of cycling training in the town's schools this year after securing a 76,000 grant from the Department of Transport.
Road Safety Officer Paul Watson said: "Up until now our budget has enabled us to put around 500 Year 6 pupils through cycle proficiency training each year, but this grant will enable us to train an additional 1,900 children.
"This means that every Year 5 and 6 child will be given the opportunity to be trained in National Standard Bikeability Cycle Training."
Cycling Solutions is keen to hear from competent cyclists who want permanent, flexible, family-friendly employment.
Pay is 8.32 per hour and benefits include a contributory pension, holidays and annual bonus.
Application forms and more information is available by logging on to www.cyclingsolutions.co.uk or calling 0845 3479381. The closing date for applications is July 18.
