ONE lucky raffle ticket owner stands to win a £4,500 new stock car in a mega raffle draw to raise money for a cancer charity.
Hartlepool businessman Mark Johnston, one of the sponsors of the car, today urged town people to put themselves in the running.
Mark, 12 other sponsors and the Barford Raceway track in Barnard Castle, have teamed up to offer the grand prize in a draw which will raise money for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, which battles to detect and treat cancers as early as possible.
Mark, who runs Mark Johnston Flooring in Raby Road, said: “One of the marshalls at the track lost his life to cancer. We talked about doing something for charity. We wanted to support a cancer charity and this was the most popular one.”
Mark, 41, and his wife Natasha, 31, a part-time recruitment contractor and who also helps in the shop, are in their third season of stock car racing.
He added: “For a £1 raffle ticket, someone can win a £4,500 car, a 2014 race licence and free on-track tuition. All the money raised is going to the fund and people can buy as many tickets as they want. There is no profit-making in this.”
Raffle tickets are available from Mark’s carpet shop in Raby Road, from Hindles Auto Spares on the Graythorp Industrial Estatem in Hartlepool, and from the Barford Raceway at Barnard Castle.
Mark added: “This is a fully ready-to-race car on 2014 specifications.
“It would race in the stock rod and hot rod category as a two-lite hot rod.”
