A CHARITY appeal in aid of seven Hartlepool-based youth organisations has received a boost from a local businessman.

Darab Rezai, the owner of Marco Polo restaurant, in York Road, and Zeus nightclub, in the town’s Whitby Street, has donated £500 to the appeal of Coun Stephen Akers-Belcher, the chairman of Hartlepool Borough Council.

Coun Akers-Belcher has been running the appeal throughout his current year in office, which ends next month, and so far he has raised £30,500.

Mr Rezai said: “I firmly believe that we should support young people because they are the future of our town and our country.”

Coun Akers-Belcher added: “His donation is a big boost for my appeal and it is a further example of the excellent support that I have received from Hartlepool’s business community throughout my year in office.”

The charities are the Belle Vue Youth Project, Central Correctors, Hartlepool Young Carers, NYPD (Nurturing Young People’s Development), The Phoenix Funsters, The Rifty Youth Project and the Wharton Annexe.
