TWO worthy causes are set to gain from a charity drive.

Staff at East Durham Homes have raised more than £500 from a charity fundraising day.

The cash raised will be split between this year’s chairman’s charity Cancer Research UK and also go towards a volunteering project in Ghana.

Cakes, scones and other goodies were on sale throughout the fundraising day and at lunchtime homemade pie & peas were on sale.

Staff also took part in a tombola, raffle and a dress down day to raise money for the two charities.

Michael Doyle, interim chief executive at East Durham Homes, thanked the staff and a string of companies for their donations.

He said: “I am always impressed with the tremendous effort staff put into our charity days, from arranging activities to donating prizes.

“Everyone digs deep to support these good causes.”

He added: “I would like to thank all staff and also local companies Elegance Spa in Murton, Emma Isabella Floral Design in Peterlee, The Nest Fisheries, The Stapylton Arms in Hawthorn, Harry’s Bar in Thornley, Glen’s Catering from Peterlee Industrial Estate and Walkers Crisps who have donated prizes.”
