Charity challenge raised £33,000

A CHARITY challenge backed by the Mail has raised more than £33,000 for worthy causes including Hartlepool and District Hospice.

The venture, originally called the Vantis Corporate Challenge, saw firms across the region take 50 and try to convert it into as much money as possible.

Workers at numerous companies tried their hands at everything from car washing to half marathons to boost the total.

Christine Murray, managing director of Hartlepool-based Amacus, picked up the award for Most Innovative Idea for their Carrie's Cast-off Bring and Buy sale based on this summer's hit film Sex And The City 2.

Buyers and sellers brought posh, high end, designer clothes and accessories helping to raise 500.

This is the second year the Corporate Challenge has benefitted local charities. The organisers behind it are from Evolution, which recently took over the former Vantis businesses, which have offices in Hartlepool, Darlington and Middlesbrough.

The challenge gave teams three months to raise as much money as possible for Hartlepool and District Hospice, Zoe's Place Baby Hospice and St Teresa's Hospice.

The end result was 33,724.19 raised and Ray Priestman, one of the leading members at Evolution, said: "Requesting companies to put in extra time, effort and commitment to a project when many are operating under tighter and leaner business conditions is a big ask.

Despite this the companies involved in the Corporate Challenge have demonstrated great attitude and team spirit and rallied their troops helping to raise a fantastic amount of money."

Companies came up with innovative ways of raising cash.

The Mail also supported the cause and was given 50 to put on a charity bet during the World Cup but hopes lay on Wayne Rooney emerging as top scorer during the tournament which would have netted 550 for Hartlepool and District Hospice.
