MEGA walker Paul Burgum has conquered the pain as he battles on in his great adventure in Italy.
The 34-year-old former Hartlepool College of Further Education student, who lives in Billingham, is trying to walk 1,000 miles from the foot of Italy to Monaco.
He is hoping to complete it in 30 days in a campaign called Grande Passeggiata.
But within days of launching his epic adventure, just after Christmas, he was struck down by a chest infection. He was laid up in a tent for 36 hours and then had to go to an Italian doctors for medication.
But he is now back on the roads in his quest to raise money for the Jo and Mya Memorial Fund which was founded by his friend Ian Richardson to help children who have lost loved ones. Paul is now up to around 30 miles a day of walking.
Paul kept his followers up to date with a Facebook message saying he was “starting to work harder now chest is recovering from infection.”
He added: “This is brutal and only truly worth it if I raise a fortune for @JoandMyafund.”
