'Clean up your act' over drugs warns judge
A WOMAN who was caught by police cutting up amphetamine on a chopping board has been told by a top judge to clean up her act.
Beverley Rowbotham was arrested after police were in her house and saw her with the Class B drug, commonly known as speed.
Gillian Milton, prosecuting at Teesside Crown Court yesterday, said officers found her with 8.72 grams of the drug worth 43.60 at the house.
Some was on a chopping board in the kitchen, while more was found contained in five packages.
Tests showed the amphetamine was low grade, and was just one per cent pure.
Rowbotham, 44, was arrested and originally charged with possession of drugs with intent to supply.
She admitted the amphetamine was hers, but denied being a dealer which was later accepted by prosecutors.
The court heard Rowbotham, of Lister Street, Hartlepool, had taken the drug for medical problems for a number of years.
In 2001 she was given a six-month conditional discharge for possessing amphetamine.
Yesterday she was given a 12-month conditional discharge for possession of a Class B drug on May 1 last year.
Judge Peter Fox, the Recorder of Middlesbrough, said: "You must try to get off this.
"I know it is easier said than done but so long as you have some help to deal with your problems then you can do it and put drugs behind you."
