Coastline gets a big thumbs up

EAST Durham’s coastline is helping to push the North-East to the top of England’s tourist havens.

VisitEngland’s new Facebook app has set out to find the top 101 Things to Do Before You Go Abroad, and the North-East is steadily climbing the ranks.

Part of that is down to the Heritage Coast which runs through East Durham.

The coastal path has been praised for leading visitors “through a wonderful mosaic of great natural, historical and geological interest. “

Rebecca Hollway, VisitEngland’s Head of PR , said: “We’ve had some fantastic suggestions for the North-East, including Alnwick Castle, where Harry Potter learned to fly his broomstick, Durham’s heritage coast, with stunning views out across the North Sea and Digital, one of Newcastle’s biggest nightclubs.”

“However, we know the area has so much more to offer and we’re hoping to see lots more suggestions before the app closes on 1st March.”

To make your own nomination of top tourist attractions in the area, visit www.101thingstodoinengland.co.uk or checkout VisitEngland on Facebook.
