HARTLEPOOL is playing its part in this year’s Comic Relief with an array of events taking place this week.

Fundraising is already underway at the Sainsbury’s store, on the Bishop Cuthbert estate.

The store has been selling a range of Comic Relief merchandise and shoppers can give themselves a chance of winning a pair of VIP meet and greet tickets to a Jessie J concert.

All people have to do is pull their funniest face in this year’s Red Nose and upload the image to the Sainsbury’s Facebook page.

Meanwhile, the Sainsbury’s store in Seaton Carew has teamed up with Greatham wedding shop My Wedding Belle to organise an action-packed fundraising event on Thursday from 7pm.

Two comedians, live bands, singers, a belly dancer and popular hypnotist Miles England will all feature at the Belle Vue Social Club, in Kendal Road. Tickets cost £10.

Kids in Hartlepool can dress up in red and enjoy Comic Relief sessions at council-run children’s centres.

A session named Now That I Am 2 will be held tomorrow at Stranton Children’s Centre, in Southburn Terrace from 9.30am-11am.

A Singing Tots class will run at Chatham Children’s Centre, in Chatham Road, from 1pm to 2pm and Little Un’s will take place at the Rossmere Children’s Centre, in Rossmere Way, from 1pm-3pm.

Chatham Children’s Centre holds a You and Your Baby session on Thursday from 10am-11.30am.

Also on Thursday is a Stay and Play session at Hindpool Children’s Centre from 9.30am-11am, Bookworm Babies at the Stranton Centre from 10am-11am, Lunch and Play at Ward Jackson Primary School from noon-2pm and Baby Time at Rift House Children’s Centre, in Masefield Road, from 1pm-2.30pm.

Lynnfield Children’s Centre, in Elcho Street, will hold a Little Un’s session from 9.15am-11am on Friday before an art and crafts event at Rossmere Children’s Centre from 3.30pm-5.30pm.

Zip Banks, an organiser, said: “We’ve put together an excellent programme of free activities on a Red Nose theme and we hope that families will come along and join in the fun.”
