Own the feet of a World Cup legend

Hartlepool council chairman Councillor Stephen Akers-Belcher with the Geoff Hurst framed commemorative foot cast.

Hartlepool council chairman Councillor Stephen Akers-Belcher with the Geoff Hurst framed commemorative foot cast.

CHARITIES supported by Hartlepool Borough Council’s chairman are set for a boost thanks to the feet of World Cup hat-trick hero Geoff Hurst.

A rare framed cast of the 1966 football legend’s feet has been donated to Coun Stephen Akers-Belcher.

He hopes to raise hundreds of pounds for seven young people’s town charities by selling the unique piece of memorabilia to the highest bidder.

As well as the framed cast of the famous feet, the memorabilia includes a signed picture of Geoff Hurst scoring the all-important fourth goal against West Germany, a picture of Hurst with Bobby Moore carrying the World Cup and an original ticket from the match played on July 30, 1966.

Coun Akers-Belcher said: “Naturally, I was delighted when the framed foot cast and supporting memorabilia was donated to raise money for my seven nominated charities.

“The only stipulation is that I can’t sell it for anything less than £500. Geoff Hurst is still the only player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup Final and hopefully there will be someone out there who wants a slice of football history while supporting young people’s charities at the same time.

“I’ll be happy to let it go for £500 to the first person who comes forward with the money.”

The foot cast is one of only 500 made and comes with full authenticity.

Coun Akers-Belcher’s is sharing all money he raises while chairman between The Belle Vue Youth project, Central Correctors, Hartlepool Young Carers, NYPD (Nurturing Young People’s Development), The Phoenix Funsters, The Rifty Youth Project and the Wharton Annexe.

Anyone interested in viewing or bidding for the framed foot cast should contact Hartlepool council on (01429) 523702.
