THE funeral of a popular councillor who lost her battle with cancer will be held tomorrow.

A service to commemorate the life of independent councillor Cath Hill will take place at St Patrick’s Church, in Owton Manor Lane, Hartlepool, prior to cremation at the town’s Stranton Grange Crematorium.

The 76-year-old who represented the Seaton Carew ward in Hartlepool, died at home in the early hours of Sunday, surrounded by her family.

Tributes have poured in for Coun Hill, with council leader Christopher Akers-Belcher, praising the work she had done since first becoming a councillor 19 years ago.

The mum-of-one and grandmother-of-two had managed to beat the disease around eight years ago and went into remission, but became ill again last summer. She spent her final days with her family from Hartlepool, and others who had travelled from New York and Ireland.
